Stay away from these Online Marketing Misconceptions in Order to Succeed

By Todd Delacruz

If you stop and think about it, internet marketing is this immense commerce industry that has taken the world by complete storm. So it's only natural that there are certain myths and fables surrounding this industry. While the more experienced marketers are less immune to these urban legends; it's the less experienced who can destroy their business if they get caught up in them. If you continue reading we'll show you 3 of these internet marketing myths, and then you'll be better armed to make the right business decisions.

The first misconception when it comes to selling products online is that there is no huge investment required. That's completely untrue, because look how many people are rushing to join the club of internet marketers each and every year. There are quite a few techniques you can make use of to advertise products online, and that means that internet marketing doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg. Besides that, when you're just starting out, you don't need a huge investment since you won't be using pay per click marketing or any other forms of paid advertising. You can simply start off by writing articles and publishing them online to get exposure. Video marketing is another means that's gaining in popularity, and that's mostly because videos bring lots of traffic. Then of course there's search engine traffic, which is always good to fall back on if you don't have any other means of traffic generation. The traffic that you get from the search engines doesn't cost you a penny but it is highly targeted and relevant. Once you begin with your initial internet marketing business, you will see that you don't need any money to start. After that, you may want to put your money back into your business so as to market to a wider audience.

The second myth, for offline businesses, is to mistakenly assume you can get away with no online site just because your competitors aren't using one. The simple thing to do is create an online site as soon as possible and begin sending traffic to it to get a huge jump on the others. Once you do have a website built, or if you have an existing one, then if search engine marketing appeals to you be sure you have it properly SEO'd for whatever your search terms are for your location. Even though the local search terms don't receive heavy traffic, when you target a bunch of different keywords, you'll realize that the traffic actually adds up. The only way to go with search engine marketing is to be number one, and it is doable - it just depends on how badly you want it and what you're willing to do to get it.

The last area of discussion concerns PPC traffic, and the myth is that it's the easiest way to drive traffic. PPC can be very hard if you don't know what you're doing; and if you want to know what you're doing you're going to have to invest in your knowledge. This is definitely not a place for rank newbies to find themselves in because it's just too dangerous in terms of losing money. The only thing anyone can ever do is warn people about potential pitfalls and dangers, after that it's up to them. But we do strongly recommend you learn about it and go slowly until you have some experience.

Hopefully, if you had some inclination to believe the above marketing myths, then now you're a bit more informed than before - and that's only a good thing. However, if you're smart enough and know where you're going, you will avoid them.
